|科目の目的・到達目標||Advanced English courses are designed to build upon the linguistic and academic skills students have gained in their first two years in the Faculty. A variety of Advanced English courses will be described in advance of enrolment, and students will choose from among them according to individual interests and needs. Particular topics offered will be determined by the academic interests of instructors and the particular needs of students. Some Advanced English courses may include supervised research projects intended to supplement work done in third- and fourth-year seminars outside of the English Programme.|
|授業の概要||This course improves writing, reading, and speaking skills through an introductory study of English language poetry. Reading is improved through group reading workshops focusing on a selection of accessible poems by significant English language poets. Writing is improved through engagement in poetry writing exercises based on clearly-structured English language poetic forms and styles. Students will also gain confidence and fluency in speaking through class discussion and reading aloud.
Lessons are divided into “reading exercises” and “writing exercises.” “Reading exercises” will focus on group discussion and analysis of set English language poems, while “writing exercises” will involve straightforward poetry-writing exercises following clear instructions and guidelines. By the end of the course students will be familiar with a variety of English language writing techniques (e.g. metaphor, simile, personification) which can be applied not only to poetry but also to everyday spoken and written English.
