|科目の目的・到達目標||This is a speaking and listening course with the main focus on improving students' confidence in communicating effectively in English on a variety of topics.|
|授業の概要||The situation or story in each unit represents a theme that students reflect upon, discuss and share their ideas about in pairs or small groups.
The themes represent personal issues, such as life goals, friendships, relationships and ethics, plus social issues such as equal rights, globalization, nationalism, environmental concerns, conflict and peace, refugees, and education.
Students are also required to apply critical thinking skills, and think deeply about some issues, compare information, reflect on personal experience and weigh different sides of an issue.
|授業計画||There are 20 chapters in the book. Chapters 1-10 will be studied in the first semester.
Lesson 1: Introduction
Lesson 2: Unit 1: "First Impressions" Introduce yourself.
Lesson 3: Unit 2: "Traffic Jam" How Green are you. My daily commute.
Lesson 4: Unit 3: "Who needs the local language?" Becoming International. Travel abroad - the perfect trip.
Lesson 5: Students create their own surveys on many given topics and survey students in the class.
Lesson 6: Unit 4: "Getting ahead" Raising children. Family Values
Lesson 7: Watch a movie in class
Lesson 8: Critically discuss and write about the various aspects of cinema, theme, plot, setting, music and characterization in the movie.
Lesson 9: Unit 5: "Forever Single" What does marriage mean to you? My future plans.
Lesson 10: Unit 6: " What are Friends For? What would you do for a friend? Introducing my friend.
Lesson 11: Unit 7: "What's for Dinner?" Is it better to be a vegetarian or a meat eater? What to eat?
Lesson 12: Unit 8: "Cyber Bullying" How can we stop bullying? Asking for advice.
Lesson 13: Unit 9: "Taking Care of Father" How can we take care of our parents and grandparents? The older generation.
Lesson 14: Unit 10: "Why Go to School?" How should students spend their time at university? My priorities in school.

|評価方法||Assessment will be ongoing, based on class work, improvement in language skill, attitude, motivation, ability to communicate with others and general interest in the topics plus 1 presentation and 1 writing assignment.|
