|科目の目的・到達目標||This is a speaking and listening course aimed at improving students' ability and confidence to communicate effectively.|
|授業の概要||The situation or story in each unit represents a theme that students reflect upon, discuss and share their ideas about in pairs or small groups.
The themes represent personal issues, such as life goals, friendships, relationships and ethics, plus social issues such as equal rights, globalization, nationalism, environmental concerns, conflict and peace, refugees, and education.
Students are also required to apply critical thinking skills, and think deeply about some issues, compare information, reflect on personal experience and weigh different sides of an issue.
|授業計画||There are 20 units in the book. Units 11-20 will be taught in the Second Semester.
Lesson 1: Unit 11: "An International Relationship." How much should we change our lives for love. Big life decisions.
Lesson 2: Unit 12: "Too Little, Too Late. What can we do to save the planet? My green resolution.
Lesson 3: Unit 13: "Ben and Mike": Should we pay attention to rumours? Best Friends.
Lesson 4: Surveys. Students develop on the ideas created in Semester one and make their own surveys.
Lesson 5: Unit 14: "Government Control" Should the government control the population? A new law for my country.
Lesson 6: Watch a movie in class.
Lesson 7: Students analyse the movie and write a critique.
Lesson 8: Unit 15: "Living Together" Should couples live together before marriage? Parental influences.
Lesson 9: Unit 16: "Size Discrimination" How much does our weight affect our health and happiness. Self-improvement.
Lesson 10: Debate. Developing on the debate skills taught in Semester one, students create a debate discussing the pros and cons on a number of topics.
Lesson 11: Unit 17: "Who Will Help Them?" Who is responsible for helping refugees? World Problems.
Lesson 12: Unit 18: "Finding the Right One." What is the best way to find the right marriage partner? Looking for my ideal love.
Lesson 13: Unit 19: "Dress for Success." What kind of an example should teachers set? How should teachers act?
Lesson 14: Unit 20: "A Mother's Story" Do murderers deserve to die? You be the judge?

|評価方法||Assessment will be ongoing based on class work, improvement in language skill, attitude, motivation, ability to communicate with others and general interest in the topics plus 1 presentation and 1 writing assignment.|
