|科目の目的・到達目標||The English Writing courses aim to prepare students for tasks in a variety of settings in which they may be expected to express themselves in written English. This class will also focus on writing English papers in a logical way to prepare for presentations and discussions. Students will work to improve accuracy in grammar and syntax, and will practice composing English paragraphs and short personal and academic essays, in the latter incorporating and documenting material drawn from one or more sources.|
|授業の概要||This class aims to improve your confidence in writing English. It will focus on logical writing and practice writing papers for the presentations and discussions.
We will use a ‘process writing’ approach which focuses on strategies for planning, organizing, writing, evaluating and re-drafting work. A variety of academic and non-academic topics will be used, with an emphasis being placed on meeting students’ own particular needs and interests. Much time in the classroom will be spent preparing for assignments, by analyzing model texts, sharing ideas in small groups, planning and organizing content or peer review of each other’s work. Students should therefore be prepared to take an active role in the class, communicating with both the teacher and their peers in English. The course will consist of teacher explanations of important concepts relating to the rhetorical structure of different genres of writing, followed by group and individual practice work.
This class will also have vocabulary word test at the end of each class.

|評価方法||• Continuous assessment of written assignments & participation 70%
• Vocabulary Word test 30%
Note: Students who are absent four times or more during the semester will receive the grade ‘F’.

|授業外の学習活動||Students are required to spend at least an hour per week studying textbooks, class materials, or handouts in order to prepare for the next class and also to study for the vocabulary test held every week.
