科目の目的・到達目標 | The Academic Writing courses begin with practice in the development of English paragraphs and end with the presentation of researched and documented papers in the Policy Sciences and Cultural Studies. Work in the courses will include activities designed to help students select and limit topics related to their own academic interests, to use reference materials from a variety of sources and to compose texts that are fully documented. |
授業の概要 | This course will introduce students to foundation skills in academic writing, research, editing and argument. While developing students’ skills in academic writing, presentation and research, this course also aims to stimulate students’ interest and confidence in responding to contemporary policy and culture. The course will cover sentence structures, paragraph organization, vocabulary building, analytical and argumentative skills, research skills, referencing skills, and planning, editing and drafting skills. In class, we will practice brainstorming, free-writing, planning, and revision. In the first semester, we will concentrate on paragraph styles. |
