科目の目的・到達目標 | The Academic Writing courses begin with practice in the development of English paragraphs and end with the presentation of researched and documented papers in the Policy Sciences and Cultural Studies. Work in the courses will include activities designed to help students select and limit topics related to their own academic interests, to use reference materials from a variety of sources and to compose essays that are fully and fairly documented. |
授業の概要 | In the second semester students will build on skills learnt in the first term which focused mainly on paragraph writing, and begin to work on longer compositions, leading up to a final essay. The essay will be based on topics from students' wider studies and interests. Students will be analyzing and critically evaluating research material located by them, including documentaries, newspaper articles, and academic journal articles and books. Through this process, students deepen and develop their research, editing and argument skills. Students will complete one researched, argued, and referenced essay (1000 words) on their own area of interest. |
