|科目の目的・到達目標||The Academic Presentations courses aim to help students successfully prepare and present researched and documented materials in the Policy Sciences and Cultural Studies. Using skills introduced in the Writing courses and reinforced here, students will select topics related to their own academic interests, locate relevant sources, and relying on these and other materials prepare individual and / or group presentations that aim to inform, persuade, or challenge the assumptions of an audience.|
|授業の概要||The course emphasises practical presenting skills for both giving information and for making arguments. Students will improve their confidence and skill by giving short presentations both in small groups and as individuals. Students will also be required to actively participate as audience members. Each student will be graded on their involvement in two presentations per semester. Students will be assessed for their presentations and for their participation as audience members. The two main pieces of assessment for semester I are as follows: Prepare a collaborative group presentation that requires teamwork to solve a given problem. Prepare an individual presentation that clearly explains a topic to the audience.
Working individually and in a group of 3-4 members, the two presentations require students to (1) select a research topic, (2) gather useful information and data, (3) analyze the texts carefully, (4) organize the information/data, (5) construct a good argument, (6) complete a clear outline, and (7) present the results to the class in a persuasive manner. Active participation in class discussions as well as evaluations of other students’ presentations will also be required.
