| 科目の目的・到達目標 | The English Writing courses aim to prepare students for tasks in a variety of settings in which they may be expected to express themselves in written English. Students will work to improve accuracy in grammar and syntax, and will practice composing English paragraphs and short personal and academic essays, in the latter incorporating and documenting material drawn from one or more sources. |
| 授業の概要 | This class aims to improve your confidence in writing academic English. We will use a ‘process writing’ approach which focuses on strategies for planning, organizing, writing, evaluating and re-drafting work. A variety of academic and non-academic topics will be used, with an emphasis being placed on meeting students’ own particular needs and interests. Much time in the classroom will be spent preparing for assignments, by analyzing model texts, sharing ideas in small groups, planning and organizing content or peer review of each other’s work. Students should therefore be prepared to take an active role in the class, communicating with both the teacher and their peers in English. The course will consist of teacher explanations of important concepts relating to the rhetorical structure of different genres of writing, followed by group and individual practice work. The majority of writing itself will be done outside of class. |
