to review and/or practice prewriting techniques like free-writing, brainstorming, and planning to make sure you are supporting your ideas well, that you are using other people’s ideas properly and making your own writing more organized.

授業の概要 Academic Writing: This course is an introduction to basic academic writing. You will review the paragraph writing skills that you have already learned and will learn how to develop your ideas into a multi-paragraph essay. Your writing assignments will be as a process (multi-draft) with opportunities for you to edit and revise your work with the help of your classmates and myself. All the materials will be provided for the class. Please buy a 2-ring binder to keep handouts and bring your dictionary to each class.

Essay 4: Discursive Essay--This assignment is to help you to express two sides of an argument, both For AND Against, before giving your opinion in the conclusion. You will have an opportunity in each of these essays to draw from your own experience and opinions, without having to do any research.

Essay 5: Research Essay--This assignment is to help you to argue a point of view, from "secondary research" or research done by others. In addition to increasing your organizational skills for essay writing, you will be spending time doing research in class, using the internet. You will also learn to make a Works' Cited List.

授業外の学習活動 Writing takes a lot of time. Students should plan to write, and review their writing every day for approximately 30 to 60 minutes.
