授業の概要

This is a general academic reading course. The aim of the course is to develop the ability of students to read relatively complex texts both fluently and accurately. By studying articles about social and global issues, including international relations, politics, economics, society and culture, students will increase their understanding of the world and improve their academic vocabulary and grammar. They will learn both close reading techniques and strategies for whole text understanding, such as skimming and scanning. Students will also be expected to respond to the articles by summarizing, analyzing and discussing what they have read.
英語講読演習1aでは、英語での比較的複雑な文章を流暢かつ正確に読むための能力の育成を目指す。この授業では、社会問題やグローバルな問題―例えば、国際関係、政治、経済、社会と文化―といった題材を取り扱った文章で学習することで、現実世界の諸問題への理解を深めるとともに、アカデミックな語彙や文法の知識を補強する。また、文章の精読方法に加えて、速読のための方法―例えば、スキミングやスキャニング―についても学習する。加えて、読んだ文章に対する要約作成、分析や議論を通した意見表明についても演習を行う。

科目目的

In this course, students will develop their general academic reading skills. They will improve their ability to read whole texts smoothly and to understand the structure of individual sentences.
英語講読演習1aでは、一般的なアカデミック・リーディングの演習を行うことで、文章全体をスムーズに読む能力を育成するとともに、一文一文の構造を読み解く能力を育成することを目的とする。

到達目標

Students should be able to:
1. Read relatively complex texts about social and global issues.
2. Understand a wide range of academic vocabulary and grammar.
3. Respond intelligently to texts through summarizing and discussion.
英語講読演習1aを通して、学生は以下のことが可能になることが期待される。
1．社会問題やグローバルな問題に関する比較的複雑な文章を読むことができる。
2．幅広いアカデミックな語彙や文法を理解することができる。
3．要約や議論を通して、読んだ文章に対する意見を表明することができる。
