授業の概要

この科目は、問題解決力(外国語とコミュニケーションの能力及びコンピューターを利用した統計・情報処理と分析の能力を用いて、科学技術及び社会の急速な変化に対応しながら、さまざまな問題を解決することができる)の修得に関わる科目です。
<概要>
During this course, students will continue to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English by focusing on current events. Students will read English news articles. They will then critically discuss and give opinions on the domestic and international current events in small groups. Students will also develop their research and presentation skills.

Students will be required to find a short English news article for every lesson. For Class 3, 4, 6, 7, 9,10, 12, and 13, they will have to tell their partners a short one two or three sentence summary of the news article. For Class 5, 8, 11, and 14, they will have to prepare a longer summary of the article and be ready to lead a group discussion by making discussion questions. Students should also review their new vocabulary. If a student’s absence on the day of a Presentation and Discussion is excused by the department, the student may complete an alternate assignment outside of class for evaluation.

成績評価の方法・基準(備考)
中間試験: During Class 5, 8, 11, and 14, in small groups the students will present and discuss an English news article they have found. They will write a short summary paragraph to present to their partners. Then they will lead a discussion with their partners about the topic using discussion questions they have prepared. During Class 5, 8, 11, and 14, the students will have a short vocabulary test related to the topics of discussion.
その他: During Class 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, and 13, students will find a short news article in the English and write a 2-3 sentence summary to share with their partners.
平常点: Students are expected to participate in the class activities, demonstrating a positive attitude, and arrive on time and prepared by completing all the assigned homework. Arriving 30 minutes or later after the start of class or leaving early before the end of class will be considered an absence, and two late or early departures will be considered one absence. Attending 10 or more of the 14 classes is the minimum requirement for being graded (= up to four absences). In addition, depending on your behavior during class (forgetting things, falling asleep, excessive private conversations, leaving the room without permission, using a personal smartphone, etc.), you may be considered absent even if you are present.
