授業の概要

この科目は、問題解決力(外国語とコミュニケーションの能力及びコンピューターを利用した統計・情報処理と分析の能力を用いて、科学技術及び社会の急速な変化に対応しながら、さまざまな問題を解決することができる)の修得に関わる科目です。
<概要>
This course focuses on developing English listening, speaking, and presentation skills with an emphasis on themes relevant to economics, globalization, and nationalism. Students will engage in collaborative activities, discussions, and projects designed to build intercultural competence and critical thinking skills, while exploring economic and societal issues in a globalized world.

Autumn Semester:
Week 1: Course Review and Society
Students review last semester and discuss how people live together and support society.
Week 2: Reasons for Immigration
Students learn common reasons people move to another country, such as work, family, and safety.
Week 3: Challenges of Living in Another Country
Students explore language, work, and cultural challenges faced when living abroad.
Week 4: Immigration and Social Impact
Students discuss how immigrants influence society and how societies respond to newcomers.
Week 5: Changes in Daily Life
Students compare past and present daily life to understand how society changes over time.
Week 6: Holidays and Society
Students examine holidays as examples of social values, history, and shared meaning.
Week 7: Traditions and Social Change
Students discuss whether traditions should change or stay the same in modern society.
Week 8: Midterm Review and Presentations
Students review key ideas and give short presentations to share their understanding.
Week 9: Introduction to Sustainability
Students learn the basic idea of sustainability and why it matters for future society.
Week 10: Environmental Responsibility
Students discuss the roles of individuals, companies, and governments in protecting the environment.
Week 11: Individual Action and Society
Students consider how small personal actions can create social and environmental change.
Week 12: Writing and Speaking Skills
Students practice organizing ideas clearly for written and spoken communication.
Week 13: Final Presentation Preparation

【実務経験有の場合】実務経験の内容
I have over 15 years of teaching experience in ESL at the university level in Japan and the United States. I have taught at Japanese junior colleges and universities and led study-abroad programs. My formal graduate education in teaching ESL includes training in core language areas.
I also have an extensive educational background in ESL, sociology, education, and religion, with Master's degrees in Religion, Applied Linguistics (TESOL), and a PhD in Education.
【実務経験有の場合】実務経験に関連する授業内容
I have teaching experience in areas utilized in class, including project-based learning, which includes teaching speaking-listening, reading, writing, and grammar to ESL students in Japan. I have developed a curriculum that involves all language learning modalities and encourages students to use critical thinking to accomplish class tasks.
