<概要>
This is an oral communication course with a focus on discussing various issues in English. The aim of this course is to encourage students to become critical thinkers who can use this ability to discuss important issues in English. The other main skill to be developed is the ability to find information from a variety of sources and to present opinions supported by that information.
For each topic covered in the course, students will first ask and answer questions with a partner about the topic. Next, important vocabulary for the topic will be looked at and students will practise the pronunciation needed to talk about the topic. Then students will listen to an audio clip about important issues related to the topic. Students will have to take notes and then complete short answer comprehension questions and complete gap fill items contained in the audio clip. Students will then read the transcript of the audio clip for comprehension checking and practise pronunciation and intonation. After that, students will talk again about the topic using more difficult and more contentious questions. Finally, students will work on a small project for a presentation or writing activity that will be watched or read by the other students in the class. Each topic will last two or three class sessions.
