授業の概要
This course introduces economic geography using analytical tools from urban and regional economics. Students examine theoretical frameworks and empirical issues related to urbanization, industrial location, regional growth, and transportation systems, and apply them to real-world spatial economic problems.
科目目的
Students acquire analytical frameworks from urban and regional economics and develop the ability to apply them to socioeconomic issues related to cities and regions.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Explain the economic mechanisms underlying urbanization and agglomeration.
2. Analyze land use and housing market outcomes using basic urban economic models.
3. Derive and interpret equilibrium outcomes in the monocentric city model.
4. Evaluate policies related to land use, housing, and local public goods.
5. Explain determinants of industrial location and regional specialization.
6. Analyze factors affecting optimal city size and urban growth.
7. Assess causes and consequences of interregional disparities.
8. Explain how transportation costs influence urban structure and regional development.
9. Apply economic reasoning to contemporary urban and regional problems.
