授業の概要
このコースでは、法、政治、司法、国際社会といったグローバルな課題を探求することで、学生は英語で自分の考えを伝える自信を養います。学生は英語でニュース記事やその他の資料を読み、聞き、体系的なメモを取り、現代のグローバルな問題について英語を用いて説明、議論、考察します。 毎週のノート作成と日記、ペアや小グループでのディスカッション、プレゼンテーションを通して、学生は情報収集能力、主要な概念や主体の特定、原因と結果の分析、そして情報に基づいた意見の表明能力を養います。暗記やテストの成績ではなく、思考、探究、議論のためのツールとして英語を用いることに重点が置かれます。 トピックには、人権、気候変動、移民、戦争と平和、グローバルな不平等、テクノロジーと社会、国際法などが含まれますが、これらに限定されません。学生は自身の関心に合ったテーマを選択する機会が与えられます。
科目目的
This course is for students who have, whatever reason, not completed a 3.4/7.8 class (or failed to register for one), and they need to take this course to get their required graduation credits.

• Explain global and legal issues clearly using their own words

授業計画と内容
Stage 1: Understanding Global Issues through News and Media
Week 1 - Course introduction; requirements; goals for the semester; Introduction to global and legal issues in the news; Guidance on note-taking and weekly journals
Week 2 - Following global issues in the news: identifying key facts and vocabulary; Sharing notes in pairs and small groups
Week 3 - Understanding causes and background; Making clearer, more organised notes; Using reliable news and information sources
Week 4 - Understanding effects and consequences; Sharing summaries and reflections; Stage 1 self-assessment and feedback
Stage 2: Law, Power, and Global Problems (Short Research Cycle)
Week 5 - Choosing a law- or policy-related global issue; Background research and paraphrasing; Weekly journal focus: explaining an issue clearly
Week 6 - Identifying actors, interests, and responsibilities; Discussion of legal, political, and ethical dimensions
Week 7 - Possible responses, solutions, or challenges; Preparing short presentations
Week 8 - Stage 2 presentations and discussions; Reflection and self-evaluation
Stage 3: Perspectives, Framing, and Interpretation
Week 9 - How global issues are framed differently in the media; Comparing sources and viewpoints
Week 10 - Analysing language, claims, and perspectives; Discussion: law, responsibility, and justice
Week 11 - Preparing final presentations; Weekly journal focus: reflection and opinion
Week 12 - Final presentations and discussions
