授業の概要
このコースでは、法、政治、司法、国際社会といったグローバルな課題を探求することで、学生は英語で自分の考えを伝える自信を養います。学生は英語でニュース記事やその他の資料を読み、聞き、体系的なメモを取り、現代のグローバルな問題について英語を用いて説明、議論、考察します。 毎週のノート作成と日記、ペアや小グループでのディスカッション、プレゼンテーションを通して、学生は情報収集能力、主要な概念や主体の特定、原因と結果の分析、そして情報に基づいた意見の表明能力を養います。暗記やテストの成績ではなく、思考、探究、議論のためのツールとして英語を用いることに重点が置かれます。 トピックには、人権、気候変動、移民、戦争と平和、グローバルな不平等、テクノロジーと社会、国際法などが含まれますが、これらに限定されません。学生は自身の関心に合ったテーマを選択する機会が与えられます。
In this course, students will develop confidence in communicating ideas in English through the exploration of global issues, with particular attention to law, politics, justice, and international society. Students will read and listen to news articles and other materials in English, make structured notes, and use English to explain, discuss, and reflect on contemporary global problems. Through weekly note-taking and journals, pair and small-group discussions, and presentations, students will develop their ability to gather information, identify key concepts and actors, analyse causes and consequences, and express informed opinions. Emphasis is placed on using English as a tool for thinking, inquiry, and discussion, rather than on memorisation or test performance. Topics may include (but are not limited to) human rights, climate change, migration, war and peace, global inequality, technology and society, and international law. Students will have opportunities to choose issues that match their own interests.

This course is for students who have, whatever reason,) not completed a 3.4/7.8 class (or failed to register for one), and they need to take this course to get their required graduation credits.

Week 8 - Persuasive language and rhetorical strategies
Week 9 - Contemporary case studies (law, politics, or global affairs)
