授業の概要

This course comprises one of the required classes for completion of the Global Program. In this course, students will learn in English about the most pressing environmental challenges faced by the world today, including climate change, energy generation, resource depletion, deforestation, and pollution. They will go beyond a superficial understanding of these problems to examine the deep-lying global structures that systemize and perpetuate environmental damage. This is a task-based course in which students will be expected to work in groups to carry out independent research projects into the issues studied in class. Students will cooperate to prepare for formal debates, learning how to manage time and resources within a team environment.
本科目はグローバル・プログラム修了に必要な科目の１つである。本科目では、現代の世界が直面する環境問題について英語で学ぶ。気候変動、エネルギー生成、資源の枯渇、森林破壊、汚染といった最も差し迫った問題を取り上げ、これらの問題をより深く理解するために、環境破壊が体系的かつ持続的に行われる根本となっている世界の構造について考える。授業はタスクを中心とし、授業で取り上げた問題についてグループで調査プロジェクトを実施する。また、協力してディベートの準備をし、チームで時間とリソースを管理する力も身に付ける。

科目目的

In this course, students will study the issues underlying environmental challenges the world faces today. They will develop the ability to critically review information, learning how to express arguments and refute opposing ideas.
本科目では、現代の世界が直面する環境問題の背景にある課題を学ぶ。学生は情報を批判的に検討する能力を養い、自らの主張を表現し、反対意見に対して反論する方法を学ぶ。

到達目標

Students should be able to:
1. Understand underlying issues behind environment damage.
2. Work collaboratively to research, analyze, understand, and share information about a variety of environmental issues.
3. Express a point of view in a clear and logical manner and respond critically but politely to opposite points of view.
本科目を通して、学生は以下のことが可能になることが期待される。
1．環境破壊の背景にある課題を理解することができる。
2．多様な環境問題について、協働しながら調査・分析・理解し、その情報を共有できる。
3．自らの見解を明確かつ論理的に述べ、反対の意見に対して批判的かつ礼儀正しく応答できる。
