授業の概要
This course comprises one of the required classes for completion of the Global Program. Students will study politics and international relations in English to gain an understanding of events happening around the globe. They will watch news items aimed at native speakers, read articles, and prepare summaries and questions. Through their work in class, they will learn how to express their opinion in a logical and persuasive manner and how to lead and facilitate discussions. They will also learn to look behind current events to uncover the underlying causes of conflicts and disputes, examining issues like religion, democracy, terrorism, and the clash of ideologies.
本科目はグローバル・プログラム修了に必要な科目の１つである。世界で起こっている出来事を理解するために政策と国際関係について英語で学ぶ。授業では英語母語話者に向けて作成されたニュースを視聴し、記事を読んで、要約を作成したり論点を準備する。本科目での学びを通じて、論理的に説得力をもって意見を述べることを学び、議論を導く力を身に付ける。さらに、現在起こっている出来事の背景を探って対立や紛争の根底にある原因を明らかにし、宗教、民主主義、テロ、そしてイデオロギーの衝突といった問題を調査する力を身に付ける。
科目目的
In this course, students will study the background behind key events and conflicts in the world today. They will develop the ability to discuss controversial topics, learning how to express their own opinions while acknowledging and understanding other viewpoints.
本科目では、現代世界で起こる主要な出来事や対立の背景を学ぶ。学生は論争的なテーマを議論する能力を養い、自らの意見を述べつつ、他者の視点を理解・尊重する方法を学ぶ。
到達目標
Students should be able to:
1. Understand key issues in international relations and politics.
2. Make logical summaries and analyze both sides of an argument.
3. Lead and facilitate discussions about controversial topics in English.
本科目を通して、学生は以下のことが可能になることが期待される。
