授業の概要

この科目は、問題解決力(外国語とコミュニケーションの能力及びコンピューターを利用した統計・情報処理と分析の能力を用いて、科学技術及び社会の急速な変化に対応しながら、さまざまな問題を解決することができる)の修得に関わる科目です。
<概要>
This course will improve your ability to communicate in English. You will write and present several two-minute speeches in this class. You will also work in small groups to discuss and present your ideas. You have studied English for years but probably do not feel confident speaking English in public. The best way to gain confidence is to practice. Discussing, writing and presenting your ideas in class will strengthen your English ability, your creative writing ability, and your public speaking ability. I will use class time to help you improve your pronunciation, grammar, word choice, and public speaking skills.

授業計画と内容
Week 1: Orientation and explanation of course objectives. Introductions.
Week 2: “Writing Game” Ice-breaking, writing activity.
Week 3: News day 1. Small group, translation and summary of current events with slide presentation.
Week 4: 1. The Most Important Person in My Life. A teacher? A coach? A friend? A parent? Who is the most important person in your life so far? Tell us the story of your relationship with that person and how they shaped your life. Show us a picture of that person if you have one.
Week 5: Survey - You will carry out a survey of your classmates. What do you want to know? Write down a few (3-4) good questions you will ask your classmates during class.
Week 6: 2. Survey Report. Using your notes from last week tell us what you learned from your class survey. Feel free to use graphs or other ways to show is your data.
Week 7: Two-person play (free topic) In class preparation.
Week 8: 3. Two-person play (Four minute presentation)
Week 9: 4. That Was The Best Day of My Life. What was the best day of your life so far? Tell us the story of what happened that day and why it is important to you. Remember to use specific details to make that day as ‘real’ as possible for us.
Week 10: Meyers-Briggs personality inventory (16 Types) in-class activity (& Enneagram)
Week 11: 5. My personality and my career. Based on your personality type what careers are the best match for you? What else did you learn about your yourself and how will you use this knowledge?
Week 12: Short film screening (TBA) & reaction paper writing activity.
Week 13: 6. A Funny Thing Happened To Me. Tells us a funny story from your life. Include specific details to help us understand the humor of the situation.
Week 14: News day 2. Small group, translation and summary of current events with slide presentation.
