授業の概要
This class deals with not only political thinkers of international relations but also the history of ideas in international relations.
科目目的
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to a variety of frameworks of thinking about international politics/international relations and to familiarize students with key ideas and thinkers (from classical to contemporary) in international political thought.
Also, the purpose of this course is to encourage students to understand the history of international political thought and contemporary issues of international politics/international relations.
到達目標
The goal of this class is to understand the historical ideas and thought of international relations. To pass this class, students are asked to acquire critical way of thinking.

1. Introduction: What is International Political Thought?
2. Order and Justice in International Society
3. History of Ideas in International Relations: Idealism (morality) and Realism (power)
4. Athenian Democracy and War: Thucydides
5. Christian Pacifism and Just War Theory: from Cicero to Thomas Aquinas
6. Modern European State, the Society of States and International Law: Grotius
7. Realism- State, Power and State of Nature: Machiavelli and Hobbes
8. Liberalism- Enlightenment and Perpetual Peace: Rousseau and Kant
9. Socialism and International Political Economy: Marx
10. State Sovereignty and (Non)Intervention: J. S. Mill
11. Global Justice- Justice beyond Borders?: Rawls and Pogge
12. Feminist Understandings in International Relations

To prepare for the class, students are required to read the handouts.
For example, complete reading assignments and prepare for the class discussion.
Also, after the class, rethink of the class discussion and have your opinion.

・毎週2回の授業が半期(前期または後期)で完結するもの。1週間あたり8時間の学修を基本とします。
