授業の概要
This is a general academic reading course. The aim of the course is to continue the development of academic reading skills. Students will strengthen their knowledge of academic vocabulary and grammatical structures while deepening their understanding of social and global issues. They will improve the fluency of their reading through a focus on speed reading techniques, and further develop their ability to break down complex, individual sentences. There will also be an emphasis on critical reading skills as students gain practice in essential aspects of critical thinking, including separating fact from opinion, identifying bias, and recognizing supported and unsupported information.
英語講読演習1bでは、英語講読演習1aで培った英語でのアカデミック・リーディングの能力をさらに伸ばすことを目指す。この授業では、社会問題やグローバルな問題についての理解をより深めるとともに、アカデミックな語彙や文法の知識をさらに補強する。また、一文一文の複雑な構造を読み解くための精読能力のさらなる向上に加えて、さまざまな速読方法を適切に選択・組み合わせることによる速読能力の向上も図る。加えて、批判的思考の基本的な演習―例えば、事実と意見を区別すること、思い込みにとらわれないこと、情報が事実に裏付けられているか判断すること―を通した、批判的読解能力の育成も行う。
科目目的
Students will continue to develop their academic reading skills in this course. They will improve both the fluency and accuracy of their reading and gain more awareness of critical reading skills.
英語講読演習1bでは、アカデミック・リーディングの発展的な演習を行うことで、文章をより流暢かつ正確に読む能力を育成するとともに、批判的読解についての意識をより高めることを目的とする。
到達目標
Students should be able to:
1. Read relatively complex texts about social and global issues.
2. Understand a wide range of academic vocabulary and grammar.
3. Demonstrate awareness of key aspects of critical thinking.
英語講読演習1bを通して、学生は以下のことが可能になることが期待される。
1．社会問題やグローバルな問題に関する比較的複雑な文章をより良く読むことができる。
2．より幅広いアカデミックな語彙や文法を理解することができる。
3．批判的思考の主要な考え方についての認識を示すことができる。
