In Text-Based Interactive Learning classes, students use English actively and interactively to learn about themes of interest to them and to share their knowledge and understanding with other students.
テキストベース・インタラクティブ・ラーニングの授業では、受講生それぞれが選択した関心のあるテーマについて調べ、その成果をクラスで共有することを通して英語を対話的に活用し、主体的な学びを実践します。

The main language used in this class is English. You should make an effort during class to communicate with the teacher and with other students in English as much as possible. However, you may also use Japanese when using English is especially difficult or when you want to clarify and/or confirm some information.
このクラスでは主に英語を使用します。授業中は先生や他の学生とできるだけ英語でコミュニケーションをとるように心がけてください。ただし、それが特に難しい場合や何か情報を確認したい時は日本語を使うこともできます。
授業の概要
Theme: Leadership
This course will include student research into pre-modern civil, business, and political leaders in the spring semester. In the spring semester, you will focus on pre-modern civil, business, and political leaders that interest you. These leaders will be local rather than famous national leaders. These could include public officials such as mayors, local business leaders, leaders of civil society organizations, as well as leaders in different social fields (e.g., education, environment, sports). You will look at the background, the cultural context, the development, and the style of leadership of individuals in Japan and abroad. In the autumn semester, you will look at the backgrounds, the development, significant decisions, and the positive and negative impact of these leaders on their societies. During the course, you will have many opportunities to research, present, and discuss these issues in pairs or small groups.
What you will do in class each week
In each class, you will gather and discuss information from various texts and other media about local leaders who have had an impact on their communities. You will choose one leader and research him and his career over a four-week cycle. You will use English to make notes from the texts at home and share them with other members of the class. In addition, you will respond to questions and make connections. You will do a presentation with this information, including offering your own suggestions on what they could have done differently.
Autumn Course Outline
In the Autumn, you will be researching local leaders from the modern period.(Week 2-6) This means leaders from the 1960s until the present. Local leaders refer to elected and unelected leaders in your town, city, or prefecture, e.g., civil, social, educational, religious, and business leaders. Local foreign leaders will be similar, except that they cannot be national leaders.(Week 8-12) You will research their background, development, and significant contributions. You will finish with a presentation using the information

The main objectives of this course are to help you:
(1) engage interactively with others around texts of different kinds (for example, written, audio-visual, multimedia) so that you can develop the ability to use English
(2) build your knowledge on topics and issues of interest to you
(3) share that knowledge interactively with other people
(4) develop your critical understanding of the world.

(1) Through this course you will learn about different topics and issues of interest to you to do with the main theme of this course.

(4) You will develop your ability to use English comfortably and fluently to explain, discuss and critically analyse information with other people.

Students will be expected to do 2 hours or more preparation outside class each week, including reading (and/or listening), finding sources of information, note-taking, writing, and/or presentations, discussions, and other activities in class.
受講生は、クラスの授業以外で毎週２時間以上の予習をすることが求められます。ここで言う予習とは、リーディング、リスニング、情報や資料収集、ノートテ―キングやライティング、プレゼンテーション準備などを指します。
授業時間外の学修に必要な時間数／週
毎週１回の授業が半期（前期または後期）または通年で完結するもの。１週間あたり１時間の学修を基本とします。

Requirements to pass this course: no more than 3 absences, active participation in class activities, weekly preparation outside class, and timely completion of assignments. The teacher will provide feedback on assignments, notes or other submitted materials. In class, you will also receive peer feedback from other students as you develop and share your research through the semester.
フィードバックとして教員が課題やノート等、提出物にコメントを書くことがあります。授業中、学生はリサーチで得たものをクラスメイトと共有し、フィードバックしてもらうこともあります。

Outside class students will do research on issues relating to the course theme that interest them. During class, in pairs and small groups, they will explain and discuss their research, as well as share their research through presenting and/or writing in different ways.
授業外では、本科目のテーマに関連する、自分が興味を持った諸問題についてリサーチしていただきます。授業中は、ペアか小さなグループの中で、そのリサーチについて説明し討論するとともに、最終的に自分のリサーチの全体像をプレゼンターションしたり書いたりして共有します。

Outside class, you will use online resources for doing research each week, and in each class you will use manaba, Google Drive, Google Docs, PowerPoint or other ICT tools to share and develop your work with others. Assignments will be assigned and submitted via Canvas.com.
授業外の課題として、毎週リサーチにインターネットを使います。manaba、グーグルドライブ、グーグルドックス、パワーポイント等、さまざまなICTツールを活用して、授業中はリサーチの内容や課題をクラスメイトと共有することがあります。
