In Text-Based Interactive Learning classes, students use English actively and interactively to learn about themes of interest to them and to share their knowledge and understanding with other students.
テキストベース・インタラクティブ・ラーニングの授業では、受講生それぞれが選択した関心のあるテーマについて調べ、その成果をクラスで共有することを通して英語を対話的に活用し、主体的な学びを実践します。

授業の概要
Theme: Global Issues: Zooming in on Japan and the rest of the world.
WHAT YOU WILL DO IN EACH CLASS:
In each class, students will engage in active learning through the use of various resources related to the weekly topic or issue. Preparing and conducting research outside of class time is essential for successful learning and meaningful engagement with peers and the course instructor.
In the Fall semester, we will continue exploring a range of global issues and examine how these resonate within the Japanese context. In particular, we will focus on reading different genres, including both academic and non-academic formats such as blogs, interviews, reflections, and debates.
All students will have ample opportunities to engage with diverse topics and apply critical thinking skills by sharing their views and personal reflections based on their research. In addition to the designated course textbook, participants will read and analyse materials closely related to each textbook unit covered in class.
科目目的
The main objectives of this course are to help you:
(1) engage interactively with others around texts of different kinds (for example, written, audio-visual, multimedia) so that you can develop the ability to use English
(2) build your knowledge on topics and issues of interest to you
(3) share that knowledge interactively with other people
(4) develop your critical understanding of the world.
この授業の目的は、以下の通りです。
（１）受講生が、様々なテクスト（例：書物、音響、映像、メディア）に触れることを通して英語を使う能力を育てること
（２）興味関心に基づくトピックや社会問題についての知識を養うこと
（３）他の受講生と学んだ知識を積極的にシェアできるようになること
（４）世界で起きていることについて批判的に理解できるようになること。
到達目標
(1) Through this course you will learn about different topics and issues of interest to you to do with the main theme of this course.
(2) You will improve your reading (and listening) skills and extend your understanding of the topics and issues in this course.
(3) You will develop your ability to use information on topics and issues that interest you.
(4) You will develop your ability to use English comfortably and fluently to explain, discuss and critically analyse information with other people.

Students will be expected to do 2 hours or more preparation outside class each week, including reading (and/or listening), finding sources of information, note-taking, writing, and/or presentations, discussions, and other activities in class.
受講生は、クラスの授業以外で毎週２時間以上の予習をすることが求められます。ここで言う予習とは、リーディング、リスニング、情報や資料収集、ノートテ―キングやライティング、プレゼンテーション準備などを指します。
授業時間外の学修に必要な時間数／週
毎週１回の授業が半期（前期または後期）または通年で完結するもの。１週間あたり１時間の学修を基本とします。

Requirements to pass this course: no more than 3 absences, active participation in class activities, weekly preparation outside class, and timely completion of assignments. Further details will be provided by the teacher at the start of the semester. 成績は100％平常点で決まります。ただし単位を修得するには、特段の理由がない限り、学期中の欠席は3回を超えないこと、毎週授業外の準備を行うこと、さらに課題を全て指定された締め切りまでに仕上げることが必要です。詳細は学期の開始に担当教員が説明します。 |

You are required to purchase an A-4 size notebook and bring it to the class every week with completed assignments. The notebook will be collected twice per semester for further assessment.
NOTE: Your assignments recorded in the notebook are crucial to each week's active in-class participation.
