授業の概要
This is a year-long course, open to all years and majors. It is not related to any other course in content or requirement. The course is taught entirely in English. All levels from beginner to high advanced are welcome.
科目目的
プログラム科目に設置された講義科目は、商学部アドヴァンスト科目に位置付けられていることから、資格取得や技能形成のための実践的な学習を通して、キャリアに直結する専門知識の習得を目的とします。
Aims
The aims of this course are to
• deepen your awareness and understanding of global issues
• improve your ability to explain and discuss selected global issues
• practice your skills in organizing, connecting, and expressing your ideas
• enhance the analytical and critical thinking skills you need for further academic studies and for the workplace

By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Define and explain selected global issues
- Express your opinion about global issues in English with confidence
- Understand and explain the global context as a global professional
授業計画と内容
1. Introductions; Course aims; Project 1: Top Global Issues
-In a guided exercise led by the instructor, students brainstorm and discuss their own ideas for what they think may be the current top global issues.
2. Project 1: Top Global Issues
-Developing from the previous week's exercise, students further develop their ideas toward expanding the discussion and analysis of current top global issues.
3. Project 2: Japan Global Issues
-The thought processes and analytical skills developed in the Top Global Issues lessons are now directed to Japan, and Japan as a leading nation in the global context.
4. Project 3: Statement of Opinion
-Students are given a model structure for succinctly stating their opinion on Global Issues using a category, details, opinion argument structure.
5. Project 4: Global Village
-Proceeding from a concept first developed by Marshall McCluhan, this exercise provides an heuristic for conceiving of the state of the world.
6. Project 4: Global Village (expanded)
-Expands on state of the world.
7. Project 5: Globalisation (intermediate)
-Now approaching the topic of Global Issues from a different angle, this unit seeks to explore and discuss a concise definition of globalisation, provide examples and evaluate positives & negatives.
8. Project 5: Globalisation (advanced)
-Expands on globalisation
9. Project 6: Maps
-A hands-on workshop to practice applying the angles of analysis from global issues, global village and globalisation to a selection of world maps data.
10. Global Issues Project Presentation Workshop
-Explanations, examples, and marking sheet explanation for the Global Issues Project Presentation.
11. Project 6: Maps (expanded)
Global Issues Reading Report Due
12. Project 7: State of the world – Gapminder
-Using the Gapminder on-line tool, students learn to create custom data sets for global issues analysis.
13. Group Project Workshop
Global Issues Portfolio Due
-Explanations, examples, and marking sheet explanation for the Global Issues Project Presentation.
14. Global Issues Project Presentation Due

成績評価の方法・基準(備考)
Your final grade for this course is made up of:
• 10% - Weekly Exercises (in-class assignments, worksheets, tasks)
• 20% - Global Issues Reading Report (Written report on 2-page report template on global issues reading selection of student's choice)
• 30% - Global Issues Project Presentation (3-5 minute presentation on global issues topic of student's choice which optionally may be related to the global issues reading report)
• 40% - Global Issues Portfolio (The collection of all student projects and assignments)
General evaluations given on the following basis:
*Excellent*: Answers the question directly and with excellent level of detail and comprehensive clarity.
*Good*: Answers the question sufficiently well with good clarity.
*Fair*: Reasonable answer, lacking in some key points.
*Poor*: Does not answer the question. Seriously lacking in appropriate details.
