授業の概要
Students are familiarized with a variety of English materials to improve their listening and speaking skills. They are also trained to be able to make a presentation in English. They also learn techniques for the TOEIC exam. All class activities are conducted in English. Students will practice listening and speaking English in pair work and group work. No specific level of fluency is required before taking this class. A desire to speak and willingness to work on fluency is important. Students will be asked to share their responses to the issues and respond to the opinions and insights of others. Generally, the class will proceed at a pace of one chapter per class in the student book. Homework includes using the student book for language practice and weekly writing assignments.
科目目的
This course is positioned as a global subject in the curriculum, and its purpose is to provide students with an opportunity to use English as an effective communication tool. Specifically, to provide reading and listening practice, as well as introducing new vocabulary. More specifically, the course has the objective of helping students to 1. Enhance reading and writing skills (comprehension); 2. Enhance listening comprehension; 3. Increase vocabulary; 4. Improve English grammar; and 5. Increase fluency in speaking.

成績評価の方法・基準(備考)
Attitude, effort, and class participation (50%), homework, pop quizzes and term exams (50%). Other things that will be taken into consideration include punctuality, preparedness, neatness, accuracy, time management and listening skills. Being absent for more than 1/3 of all classes for the year is automatic grounds for failing. Arriving late to class more than 60 minutes once, 30 minutes twice, or 15 minutes 3 times is counted as one absence. Students who do not attend the end of semester exam cannot receive a final grade.

The weekly lesson plan may change depending on time and other considerations. A deduction in participation points may occur for students who do not complete class work and homework assignments and come to class prepared, which includes bringing a dictionary (electronic is ok) and textbooks to class every week.
