授業の概要
This is an introductory course in economic principles that help us understand how an economy functions in today’s society. The course introduces economic reasoning as well as techniques used by economists that can analyze and explain the complex modern economy. The course first deals with coordination mechanism in a market economy and its role, then devotes to the study of macroeconomics---the analysis of the economy at the aggregate level. We also discuss macroeconomic policy issues such as the financial crisis and budget deficit.

Students who successfully complete the following three criteria will receive a grade of B or higher.
1. Demonstrate basic understanding of economic theory.
2. Apply basic economic theories to understand current economic issues and evaluate policy options.
3. Understand and use quantitative data to analyze economic issues.

Before attending each class, you are expected to read the textbook. The textbook is one of the best-selling one in the world. You can learn not only the standard principles of economics, but also sophisticated ways of expressing things in English. This course uses MindTap, a well-designed companion course software. It provides flashcards, exercises, self-test and many other useful resources that will help your understanding of the course contents. You are expected to solve many MindTap problem sets.
We expect that you are expected to spend about eight hours of self-study each week in total.

This class follows 'BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Policy' of the Faculty of Global Management, and all participants should bring your own PC which fully satisfies minimum Faculty-recommended specifications (i.e., display screen-size etc). Note that the University prohibits any use of SNS during the lecture, and no course material can be distributed somewhere else outside the class under the copyright-protection, license agreement terms and conditions, and other restrictions.

Class attendance is mandatory since most exam questions will come from lecture materials. The only acceptable excuse for a missed exam is a medical emergency with documentation or a special circumstance that the Faculty Office officially authorises. Please note the date and time of the final (to be announced), do not leave town before the final. No make-up exams will be given. This class has a substantial amount of homework that will often take a significant amount of time to complete.
