授業の概要
This course will take a historical look going back to the early 1940s during World War II to find the origin story of what came to be known as Modern Management, but which should more actuately labeled "American (meaning U.S.) Management." While this management approach contains some universal principles of management that would go on to become the blueprint of management through globalization, it also contains many elements that were and still are today U.S. specific. Beginning in the 1970s, a bastardized form of American Management that is a form of managerialism increasingly began to take over management practise and managerial education in the U.S. Managerialism has deeply penetrated into many areas of society, damaging organizational community in the process. Community-building will be presented as the essence of U.S. management and the way back to these roots will be proposed at the end of this course.
