授業の概要
Seminar IV is for students to improve the methods used in the graduation thesis and explore alternative hypotheses. The seminar will introduce some additional causal inference methods mostly used in practice. The seminar will provide some guidance to enhance the quality of data analyses, consolidate the findings, and outline the itinerary of the graduation thesis.
科目目的
Students should be able to enhance the regression results by adding more appropriate control variables, examine the heterogeneity issues, alternative hypotheses, and robustness checks. Students should aim to apply a method of causal inference in the analyses.
到達目標
By the end of seminar IV, students should be able to complete all data analyses and consolidate the findings.

その他特記事項
Class attendance is mandatory, and absences without valid reasons are strongly discouraged. The seminars build on prior knowledge and cumulative learning. Without a solid foundation of basic concepts and consistent engagement, it can be extremely challenging to keep up with the course material and to conduct the graduation thesis.
Also, all materials provided and introduced will be applied into your graduation thesis. Without sufficient attention during the class including other student presentations' content and of course, class attendance, students will not be able to apply into their graduation thesis and graduate in time. If students have to miss the class, students must keep up with the missing content.
(Self) Learning to use statistical software effectively is a crucial part of the process.
Presentations, lectures, discussions, and the graduation thesis (research project) are conducted entirely in English. The use of quantitative methods and microdata is strongly encouraged to address the research questions.
It is important to regularly check your university email and Manaba for important notices and announcements. Communication is a key measure to resolve any arising problems. When writing email, ensure that your email includes a clear and meaningful subject line, your full name, student ID, and a mention that you are referring to this class. Most importantly, write concisely and clearly explain the purpose of your communication. It is advisable to proofread your email in English before sending it.
