この科目は、問題解決力(外国語とコミュニケーションの能力及びコンピューターを利用した統計・情報処理と分析の能力を用いて、科学技術及び社会の急速な変化に対応しながら、さまざまな問題を解決することができる)の修得に関わる科目です。
<概要>
This course enhances listening and comprehension skills by engaging with current events across various domains, including international affairs, business, finance, science, technology, sports, and entertainment. Students will refine their information capture, analytical, and speaking abilities by utilizing listening exercises, podcasts, video analysis, and the Cornell note-taking method. Regular discussions and group projects encourage critical thinking and a global perspective, equipping students with the tools needed to articulate informed opinions and engage in meaningful dialogue about world events.
科目目的
This class is about getting better at listening to what people are saying, especially regarding current events. We will listen to news stories, listen to podcasts, watch videos, and learn a special way of taking notes called the Cornell note-taking method. We will also have regular discussions to help further your understanding of current events covered in class. This will help us remember and understand what we hear better. We will learn about different kinds of news, like what's happening in other countries, how money works, new technology, sports, and TV shows.

授業計画と内容
Week 1: Introduction to the Course. Understand the course outline, stay informed on current events, and learn the Cornell note-taking method. Course overview presentation, introduction to the importance of current events, workshop on the Cornell note-taking method.
Week 2: Current Events Listening, Note-taking Practice, and Speaking Practice. Develop listening skills through current events, practice Cornell note-taking, and engage in speaking exercises. Listen to a current event podcast, note-taking exercise, and group discussions on the event.
Week 3: National News Listening, Note-taking Practice, and Speaking Practice. Enhance understanding of national issues, refine note-taking skills, and improve speaking abilities. National news report analysis, structured note-taking, and role-play discussions on national issues.
Week 4: International News Listening (Asia), Note-taking Practice, and Speaking Practice. Expand global awareness focusing on Asia, further note-taking and speaking skills. Listen to an international news segment from Asia, note-taking, and debate on the implications of the news.
Week 5: International News Listening (Europe), Note-taking Practice, and Speaking Practice. Broaden your understanding of current European events and continue the practice of skills. European news analysis, collaborative note-taking, and discussion on cultural and political impacts.
Week 6: International News Listening (USA), Note-taking Practice, Speaking Practice, Begin Video Presentation #1 Preparation. Analyze current events in the USA and initiate the first video presentation project. USA news segment listening, group note-taking, brainstorming for video presentation.
Week 7: Business News Listening, Note-taking Practice, and Speaking Practice. Understand key business news and develop relevant note-taking and speaking skills. Business news case study, note-taking on business strategies, group discussion.
Week 8: Finance News Listening, Note-taking Practice, Speaking Practice. Gain insights into the finance sector and finalize video presentation #1. Finance news review, investment strategy note-taking, presentation of video #1.
Week 9: Science News Listening, Note-taking Practice, and Speaking Practice. Explore recent scientific developments, apply note-taking, and engage in scientific discourse. Listening to science podcasts, summarizing research findings, and group discussions on scientific advancements.
Week 10: Technology News Listening, Note-taking Practice, and Speaking Practice. Stay updated with technology trends and enhance technological literacy through note-taking and discussions. Analysis of a technology news report, tech product review note-taking, and panel discussion on technology's impact.
Week 11: Sports News, Listening and Speaking Practice, Begin Video Presentation #2 Preparation. Understand sports journalism and start preparation for the second video presentation. Sports segment analysis, team discussions on sports events, outline for video presentation #2.
Week 12: Social Networking News Listening and Speaking Practice, Continue Video Preparation. Analyze the influence of social media on news and continue the video project. Social media news case studies, discussion on social networking trends, video project work.
Week 13: Entertainment News Listening and Speaking Practice, Video Presentation #2 Due. Dive into entertainment industry updates and finalize video presentation #2. Entertainment news review, group discussions on cultural impacts, presentation of video #2.
Week 14: Final Video Presentation Due and Discussion. Reflect on the news stories covered and discuss the application of the Cornell note-taking method. The final video presentation showcases a comprehensive review of a chosen topic, a roundtable discussion on the course content, and note-taking methods.

成績評価の方法・基準(備考)
中間試験: It is necessary to receive a cumulative score of 60% or higher on the video presentation assignments to pass the course.
期末試験: The final video presentation is not a group project. Each student will prepare a video presentation by the deadline.
レポート: Homework assignments from the textbook will be posted on Manaba every week. Assignments will be collected online before the following class. In principle, late submissions will not be accepted.
平常点: Students are expected to participate in the class activities in an active manner, demonstrating a positive attitude. Students who arrive more than 15 minutes after the start of class AND have not contacted the instructor about the delay by email or over Manaba will be counted absent.
