<概要>
This is an oral communication course with a focus on discussing various issues in English. The aim of this course is to encourage students to become critical thinkers who can use this ability to discuss important issues in English. The other main skill to be developed is the ability to find information from a variety of sources and to present opinions supported by that information.
For each topic covered in the course, students will first ask and answer questions with a partner about the topic. Next, important vocabulary for the topic will be looked at and students will practise the pronunciation needed to talk about the topic. Then students will listen to an audio clip about important issues related to the topic. Students will have to identify main points and supporting details contained in the audio clip. Students will then read the transcript of the audio clip and practise pronunciation and intonation. After that, students will talk again about the topic using more difficult and more contentious questions. Finally, students will work on a small project for a presentation to be watched and judged by the other students in the class. The students in the class will choose the topics they will study. Each topic will last two or three class sessions.
科目目的
The main focus of this class is speaking and listening. The main goals are:
1. To give students many opportunities to converse and discuss difficult topics with others.
2. To help them to engage in discussions and make presentations that are logical and backed up by facts and evidence.
到達目標
1. To help students to get to the point where they are comfortable exchanging opinions with others on difficult topics.
