授業の概要
Students will work on exercises and learn how to format and structure basic and specific types of academic essays. Emphasis is placed on the process of writing, including acts of reading, analytical thinking, discussion, drafting, reviewing, revision and editing. In-class interactive tasks are encouraged such as pair-work, small-group activities, and full-class discussions. Most of the writing will be done at home, which will be further developed through in-class speaking activities.
科目目的
This course provides an introduction to academic writing in English. Students will develop their ability to write logical paragraphs and utilize written English expressions in a clear and focused fashion. They will learn writing that is appropriate to an academic setting, as well as choosing words that convey their ideas clearly and objectively. his course will also emphasize mastery of grammar and vocabulary necessary to write academic paragraphs and essays.

1) To become able to write logical paragraphs in MLA style.
2) To develop a basic understanding of paragraph structures in different styles.
3) To demonstrate a logical organizational plan with a clear topic sentence.
4) To demonstrate a good grasp of the mechanics of academic written expressions.
5) To acquire vocabulary necessary for writing academic paragraphs.
6) To understand issues related to ethics in academic writing.

Students will be required to:
- read the texts and work on the exercises in the textbook.
- write and revise their drafts.
