授業の概要
This course aims to develop students' conversation skills in English. The main focus is on speaking and listening skills and the use of effective and appropriate discussion strategies.
In order to develop these skills, throughout the course, students will:
a. learn about different conversation strategies and how to use them successfully.
b. learn vocabulary and grammatical constructions to talk about a variety of topics through reading and listening to audio texts.
c. discuss these topics and express their opinions about them in pairs and small groups.
d. research and present academic topics of personal interest.

- Students will demonstrate their ability to start and sustain long, advanced English conversations in pairs or small groups, using different discussion strategies.
- Students will demonstrate their ability to carry out research in English on different topics and share their findings and reflection through group conversations and PowerPoint presentations. (The research process includes reading and listening to English resources and taking 2 pages of notes in an A4 notebook every week.) (3 presentations will be delivered over the two semesters)

Week 6: Clarification questions: Giant Baby & Music, reading and math. Sharing research. Listening and reading logs: developing note-taking skills
Week 7: Answering with details. Sharing research.
Week 8: Discussion: Your High School Days.
Week 9: Paragraph clarifications: Animal in movies. Sharing research.
Week 10: Paragraph clarifications: Sleep. Sharing research.

- Every week students will read and listen to English resources about their chosen research topics and take 2 pages of notes in an A4 notebook to record their findings.
- Over the academic year, students will also prepare three PowerPoint presentations.
This represents 1-2 hours of work outside of class every week.

成績評価の方法・基準

レポート | 40 | Every week you will listen and read English resources and submit 2 pages of research notes about the topics you have chosen. The evaluation is based on the amount and quality of the content that is recorded in the research notes. |
平常点 | 30 | The evaluation is based on how much English you use in class and on how actively you contribute to English conversations in your group. The more you speak, and the more you ask questions to your partners, the higher your score will be. |
その他 | 30 | 3 PowerPoint presentations will be delivered over the academic year. The evaluation is based on the language used during the presentation, the amount and quality of the informational content, and the use of the PowerPoint media (text, colors, images, animation, etc.). |

Feedback on the research notes and PowerPoint presentations is given verbally in class, and in writing at the end of each research project.
