授業の概要
In this course students will practice discussing topics in a group setting and in front of the entire class each week. Students will be given the opportunity to improve their pronunciation and will be introduced to new vocabulary each week. Students will be required to listen to spoken English through different methods the teacher will use.
科目目的
This course offers students an environment that incorporates real-world issues into their language learning. The students engage in long-term project work that involves reading, writing, listening and speaking. The goal is to increase motivation while providing a platform for improving skills.

1. Introduction: Explanation of the class and clarification of expectations
2. Paragraph rules introduction: Getting to know each other. Asking and answering questions.
3. Story project introduction. Talking about novels (author, plot, setting, characters, and theme).
4. Story project preparation (video) part I. Listening and using visual clues to gain information.
5. Story project preparation (video) part II. Listening and using visual clues to gain information.
Lecture on vocabulary relating to the information from the film (author, character, setting, theme)

Many of the classes will use a flipped class style. Therefore, preparation for discussions through light research and writing is necessary. There are major projects for both semesters of the class. These will also require out-of-class preparation.

Many of the assignments will be provided in the style of a hybrid between on-demand and flipped classes. Group discussions are planned. There will be two presentations. At the end of the first term, the students will do a book report presentation, based on a reading project. At the end of the year, the students will do a final speech presentation based on a topic of the student's choice (that will require some research). Most presentation projects will be done on video.

【実務経験有の場合】実務経験の内容
The teacher has experience teaching English in Japanese universities since 2002, a master's degree in TEFL, and heavily involved in speech presentation studies through high school and university. The teacher has been involved in many speech competitions and has been a judge at seven annual English speech competitions in Japan. The teacher is a published author of research papers and has experience editing research and dissertations as well as novel writing.

In class, there will be a focus on correct paragraph writing skills. Concepts of stories/novels will be discussed in detail. Presentations will be given on books, as well as researched materials.

You don’t have to be a good English speak to take this course. However, you must be willing to try to speak English in class and have a desire to improve.
