授業の概要
This course will help you improve your confidence in communicating in English. We will work in 3-4 week cycles in which you will read and research particular issues related to Japan and other countries. Some issues will be chosen by the instructor and will focus on current social issues both in Japan as well as other countries. Students will also be given the opportunity to chose their own issues for discussion based on their interests and current news. Accordingly, students will be required to be following the news outside of class to keep abreast of current news topics and issues. We will focus on discussion skills, learning how to effectively start, participate in and conclude discussion sin English based on the topics you have been assigned to research and learn about.

Through researching, explaining and discussing a variety of current issues students will build their English skills, confidence in using English and become comfortable in using English to express their opinions.

By the end of this course you should be able to demonstrate the ability to do the following:
1) find current and accurate research sources from a wide variety of English language media
2) ask critical thinking questions about your research
3) explain your research to others as well as be able to answer clarification questions about your research
4) work in groups to use your research to create final projects to explain your issue and have a discussion with your classmates
5) be able to confidently express your opinion and engage in a conversation about current topics
