授業の概要
This course aims to develop students’ communication skills in English with a specific focus on listening and speaking skills.
In order to develop and strengthen these skills, throughout the course, students will:
a. listen to audio texts, as well as read written texts, on varied topics and common issues. Different topics and real-world situations will be introduced.
b. discuss these topics and issues, and express their opinions about them in pairs and small groups.
c. learn about different learning and communication strategies and how to use them successfully.
d. research and present academic topics of personal interest.
The class is taught in English in order to develop your listening skills.

- Develop students' confidence in using a foreign language for communication.
到達目標
- Students will demonstrate their ability to start and sustain English conversations in pairs or small groups through using different communication strategies, such as asking follow-up questions.
- Students will demonstrate their ability to carry out research in English on different topics and share their findings and reflection through group conversations and presentations. (The research process includes reading and listening to English resources and taking 2 pages of notes in an A4 notebook every week.) (7 presentations will be delivered over the two semesters)

- Every week students will read and listen to English resources about chosen topics and take 2 pages of notes in an A4 notebook to record their findings.
- Over the academic year, students will also prepare 7 short presentations supported by A3 posters.
This represents 1-2 hours of work outside of class every week.

中間試験 | 10 | Speaking test in groups of 3 about given topics. The speaking test is a conversation between 3 students about given topics. The evaluation is based on how much English you use during the test and on how actively you contribute to the group conversation. レポート | 25 | Every week you will listen and read English resources and submit 2 pages of research notes about the topics you have chosen. The evaluation is based on the amount and quality of the content that is recorded in the research notes. |
平常点 | 25 | The evaluation is based on how much English you use in class and on how actively you contribute to English conversations in your group. The more you speak, and the more you ask questions to your partners, the higher your score will be. |
その他 | 30 | 7 short presentations will be delivered over the academic year. These presentations will be supported with A3 posters. The evaluation is based on the language used during the presentation, the amount and quality of the informational content, and the quality of the poster (text, colors, images, animation, etc.). |

Feedback on the research notes and PowerPoint presentations is given verbally in class, and in writing at the end of each research project.
