授業の概要

This course is an interactive English communication class designed for students retaking a required English course or returning from study abroad. Using contemporary topics and current events, students practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing through discussion-based activities and brief note-taking. The course emphasizes active participation, confidence-building, and practical communication rather than tests or extended writing. Each semester concludes with a final presentation-style performance, in which students choose a topic based on their notes from the semester and use simple visuals to support their presentation, receiving constructive feedback.

科目目的

The objectives of this course are to:

- Provide a supportive, low-stress environment in which students can rebuild confidence in using English for communication.
- Encourage regular attendance and active participation through consistent, discussion-based class activities.
- Use contemporary and relevant topics to promote meaningful communication in English.
- Develop practical communication habits by integrating listening, speaking, reading, and brief note-taking in each class.
- Help students use short written notes as a tool to support comprehension and spoken interaction, rather than as formal writing tasks.
- Support students in synthesizing their learning by preparing and delivering a final presentation on a topic of their choice, using simple visuals and notes collected throughout the semester.

到達目標

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

- Understand the main ideas of short English texts and multimedia materials related to current and social issues (listening and reading).
- Communicate basic opinions and reasons in English during small-group or whole-class discussions (speaking).
- Respond appropriately to others’ ideas using simple communicative strategies such as agreement, disagreement, or clarification (listening and speaking).
- Use brief written notes (key words or phrases) to support comprehension and spoken communication (writing).
- Demonstrate consistent participation habits, including attendance, interaction, and responsible communication with the instructor.
- Prepare and deliver a short presentation on a topic of their choice, using notes from the semester and simple visuals, while effectively communicating ideas and responding to feedback.
