授業の概要
We will learn about human rights issues in Japanese society in this class. It is sometimes said that Japanese society consists of the majority, meaning that minority seems to be disrespected in many cases. It appears that the concept of fundamental human rights has been accepted in this society, and it is enshrined and embodied in the Constitution of Japan. However, such concepts can turn out to be meaningless, for example, if they do not protect the minority. It should then be questioned how many people in Japan take the issue seriously. In this class, we will analyze what issues should be considered when protecting fundamental human rights from the perspective of constitutional law. First, we will learn fundamental principles of the Constitution of Japan, and will deal with individual cases afterwards.
科目目的
This class aims to analyze human rights cases critically from a variety of perspectives including Japanese case law. In particular, we will consider human rights cases in light of constitutional law.
到達目標
This class aims to help you acquire knowledge relating to Japanese constitutional law and human rights and the skills to find and argue human rights problems in Japan. At the end of this class, you are required to submit a paper focusing on a certain topic of human rights issues in Japan.
