授業の概要
The theme of this course is on how to read English texts fluently and efficiently.
For that purpose, this class uses two textbooks. The main textbook is for developing reading skills and the other is for improving reading fluency. Each lesson will start with the latter and then move on to the former. Most of the in-class activities will be conducted as pair/group work. It is vitally important to participate in class by speaking and using English. Students are expected to make use of a monolingual (English-English) dictionary.
科目目的
As a part of the general education programme of the Faculty, the aim of this class is to improve students' ability to communicate in English. Main focus will be placed on reading skill, which will contribute to as well as interrelated with the development of other skills including listening, speaking, vocabulary, and writing.
到達目標
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
1) read long, complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics;
2) follow intricate lines of argument developed in those texts;
3) read long literary prose without much effort.

成績評価の方法・基準(備考)
Regular attendance and active participation are the keys to success in this course, and absences will affect grades. Students must submit all assignments. Five absences or more during the semester will result in grade F. Being late for class twice will be counted as one absence; being late for more than 30 minutes will be counted as one absence.
