授業の概要
Students will have the opportunity to practice using and developing their communication skills including new vocabulary, listening and responding to classmates' opinions as well as discussing their own opinions. The assessment is based on the students’ attendance and class participation, submission and discussion of weekly homework as well as group projects on a variety of topics.

This course helps students develop their vocabulary and improve their ability to research, discuss and present opinions on a variety of current issues
到達目標
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
1) interact unprepared with a degree of fluency in familiar contexts and present clear and detailed descriptions on a range of subjects related to their fields of interest.
2) understand the main points of the extended speech, lectures, and films when they are spoken clearly on their fields of interest and follow the general lines of argument in a discussion.

Week 1: review of discussion skills
Week 2: reading, taking notes from and discussing short news articles
Week 3: reading, taking notes from and discussing short news articles
Week 4: choosing a topic to discuss as a group
Week 5: Preparation for mid-term discussions; includes planning and research
Week 6: Preparation for mid-term presentations; includes writing effective discussion questions and practicing discussion
Week 7: mid-term group discussions
Week 8: mid-term group discussions
Week 9: choosing and beginning research for 2nd discussion topic
Week 10: Preparation for final group discussions; includes planning and research
Week 11: Preparation for final group discussions; includes writing effective discussion questions and practicing discussion
Week 12: final group discussions
Week 13: final group discussions
Week 14: course review

Two-thirds of attendance is required for awarding course credits.
30 minutes late will be counted as absent.
Two times late (more than 15 minutes) will be counted as absent.
Lack of participation in class activities will be marked as absent.
Students are expected to bring writing paper, dictionary (paper or electronic) and have internet access to conduct research and check manaba during class time.
Students are expected to participate in group work for each presentation and discussion.
There is a strict NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED policy. Assignments are due no later than the beginning of class on the due date.
Please make sure to check on manaba each week before class to see what handouts you may need to print out, etc. Additionally, if you are absent check manaba to see what the homework is, etc. so that you come to class prepared.
