授業の概要
This academic writing course for English majors is meant to improve students' ability to write cogent, well-structured paragraphs and essays. We'll focus on writing thesis statements, organizing ideas in a logical manner, writing main ideas and supporting ideas, using transitions effectively, and writing in a clear, concise, and informative manner.
This class will meet weekly on campus. If there are any unexpected changes to our schedule, I will post the information on Manaba.

Write a paragraph in a clear and well-organized manner

Write an interesting introduction and conclusion.
Write effective supporting sentences.
Write confidently in a way that will be useful beyond this classroom, whether in other classes, graduate school, or your future workplace.
授業計画と内容
n this class, you will write paragraphs and essays on a variety of topics and purposes. We will work on topic sentences, structure and organization, purpose, clarity, and descriptive language.
1. Reentry: Fall overview
2. Methods of Organization. Using time order. Topic 1: Describe your schedule.
3 Making revisions. Topic 2: Describe your part-time job.
4. Video: Avatar
5. Video: Avatar Topic 3: Write a review of Avatar
6. Spatial order. Topic 4: Describe a favorite place.
7. Transition language. Topic 5: Explaining a process
8. Comparison Language. Topic 6: Write a comparison of your choosing.
9. Contrast Language. Topic 7: Write a contrast of your choosing.
10. Gerunds and Infinitives. Topic 8: Write about something you're good at doing.
11. On to essays - we'll discuss the structure of essays vs paragraphs.
12. Parallel Structure. Prep a topic of your choosing for an essay.
13. Write your three-paragraph essay on your topic.
14. Final writing assignment. 2024 kanji. Postcards will be provided.

成績評価の方法・基準
