授業の概要
Classroom activities will focus primarily on speaking and debating on topics working in groups of three or four students.
In each class, you will be asked to
1. Research a topic for 10-15 minutes.
2. Give your opinion on three questions.
You will be expected to explain one, two, or three reasons for your opinion.
3. You will do a quick vocabulary-matching exercise
4. You will read a short passage and answer some questions.
5. You will listen to a short discussion
6. You will then quickly research a person, company, institution, organization, or community.
7. You will then make a very short quick speech on your research and discuss your conclusions.

By participating in this course students will
1. Increase their knowledge of particular topics
2. Learn how to argue effectively for or against an issue
3. Expand vocabulary around current issues;
4. Understand and apply theories of argumentation to discussions.

To increase students’ ability to succeed at either the TOEFL or the TOEIC test. To increase basic fluency and confidence and reinforce listening, speaking and reading.

Students are required to prepare vocabulary before each class and also to review each lesson in order to deepen and retain cumulative knowledge and skills.
Students are expected to contribute to debates actively according to their abilities.
Students who do not try and contribute cannot receive a higher grade.
授業時間外の学修に必要な時間数/週
・毎週1回の授業が半期(前期または後期)または通年で完結するもの。1週間あたり1時間の学修を基本とします。

Students will be at various levels but are expected to form opinions and explain them with data and examples, and also discuss to a certain degree the arguments of other students. Assessment will take each student's fluency and confidence levels (their basic level of communication skill) into account and a grade will be awarded on each student's effort and progress through the semester. |
その他 | 20 | Other criteria 20 Important Notes: Attendance and Lateness 1. Students are expected to attend all 14 classes.Classes missed without adequate reason will be registered as absences. 2. Students arriving later than 5 minutes without proof of legitimate reason will be marked as late. 3. A record of lateness (more than a few classes) may impact the student's grade. Persistent lateness will damage the student's grade. |

Students who miss more than several classes cannot expect to get a higher grade.
