There are no strict prerequisites for this course. However, it is helpful for students to have a basic understanding of international relations and Western political thought. Basic English-speaking skills are also recommended to support class participation and discussion.

授業の概要
This course examines not only major political thinkers in international relations but also the broader history of ideas that have shaped the field. It introduces both Western and non‑Western traditions of international political thought. In addition, the course includes a focus on Japanese thinkers in international relations, making it relevant and accessible to both international and Japanese students.
科目目的
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to a range of intellectual frameworks for understanding international politics and international relations, and to familiarize them with key ideas and thinkers—from classical traditions to contemporary debates—in international political thought.
In addition, the course aims to deepen students’ understanding of the historical development of international political thought and its relevance to contemporary issues in global politics.

The goal of this course is to develop an understanding of the historical ideas and political thought that have shaped international relations. To succeed in this class, students are expected to cultivate a critical approach to analyzing these ideas and their relevance to global politics.

To prepare for each class, students are required to read the handouts in advance. This means completing the assigned readings and coming ready to participate in class discussions.
After each class, students are encouraged to reflect on the discussion and continue developing their own informed opinions on the topics covered.

You are expected to deepen your interest in both political thought and international relations by applying these perspectives to contemporary debates.
