授業の概要
The problem of avoiding war and maintaining peace is not a matter of the past in the 19th and 20th centuries but the most critical question that continues to be addressed in international relations.
The course does not cover traditional theories such as realism, liberalism, and constructivism. Instead, we learn a new theory of international relations through an overview of the results of scientific research over the past 30 years. In particular, the focus will be on research based on a strategic choice approach that highlights the interactions between nations (bargaining), such as how one acts in response to the other's behavior. We then apply these to security issues in contemporary international relations and consider the possibility of conflict and coordination among nations.
科目目的
The course aims to understand the problems behind international conflicts through (1) exploring the causes of war using a basic mathematical model with a particular focus on game theory, and (2) examining the results of quantitative analysis.
Among the university's diploma policy, it is particularly associated with "ability to think with multiple perspectives based on specialties" and "ability to understand diversity."
到達目標
The goals of this course are as follows.
First, students should learn the theoretical foundations necessary to analyze international politics and be able to explain the course of the conflict logically.
Second, with a minimum of explanations of the histories and individual cases of inter-state conflicts, several theories should be examined on the basis of scientific evidence to gain a comprehensive understanding of the process of conflict initiation.
Third, students should be able to understand the relationship between the diversity of the international community and conflict and present their ideas on avoiding conflict.
With this in mind, we aim to be able to systematically grasp security issues in contemporary international relations and analyze events in international politics that we encounter in newspapers and news.
