科目目的
This course is suggested for students interested in global environmental challenges, the sources of these challenges, and the actors in global society that are working to solve global environmental problems. Whatever environmental issue you are interested in, from climate change to plastic waste, in this course you will gain an awareness of the disconnect between our world and our earth, the complexity and interconnectivity of Earth’s ecosystems, and the interplay among national, regional and international actors, including states, international organizations, NGOs, and corporations. We will consider these actors, their successes, and their failures regarding protection of our planet through the use international law and institutions, and governance at all levels, from local to global.
到達目標
Worldwide there is increasing demand for change and governments worldwide are increasingly "talking the talk" of environmental protection and conservation. Nevertheless, there are many obstacles that prevent them from "walking the talk" and these will be explored in this course. In this regard, having an awareness of what is happening globally regarding our environment will be an invaluable addition to any student’s academic and professional development.
For students with little knowledge of Global Environmental Governance, this course offers an overview of international environmental policy and law, international institutions, and national and international approaches to managing our environment.
We will take a look at how society is dealing with local, regional and global environmental problems and students will gain an understanding of international stakeholders, their concerns, and their interactions.
This course will also give students a clearer awareness of the institutions, actors and actions that are now affecting our planet, and a better sense of what can be done at the international and regional level.
