授業の概要
This is a four-skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) course with a focus on learning how to research and give effective presentations about topics on economics, international relations and trade in English, as well as discussion of those topics. Topics will be selected by students and may include: US/China trade friction; US/EU trade friction; the role of the state in the economy; Brexit; territorial disputes; the growing economic and political power of China; the growth of online shopping; Bitcoin and other new currencies; Japan's place in the world economy; the effects of present and future pandemics on the world economy and national economies; the global economy and its effect on the environment; renewable energy sources versus traditional forms of power; other topics suggested by students.
The seminar is conducted entirely in English and is aimed at motivated students who are very much interested in what is happening in the world today and who want to challenge themselves. This seminar is student-driven, so it is very important that students intending to take the Economics Seminar are willing and eager to participate actively in class, especially by engaging in independent research and preparation, and also by asking questions during discussion sessions.
