The main language used in this class is English. You should make an effort during class to communicate with the teacher and with other students in English as much as possible. However, you may also use Japanese when using English is especially difficult or when you want to clarify and/or confirm some information.

このクラスでは主に英語を使用します。授業中は先生や他の学生とできるだけ英語でコミュニケーションをとるように心がけてください。ただし、それが特に難しい場合や何か情報を確認したい時は日本語を使うこともできます。

授業の概要

Extending Research and Discussion / リサーチとディスカッション中級
This course will further develop your confidence for communicating actively in English. Working in cycles of 4-6 weeks, you will use English to learn about social, political, legal and global issues of interest to you. In the first part of the course, you will extend your ability to research and understand issues. You will also develop your ability to explain, give presentations on, and discuss your research in pairs and small groups. In the second part of the course, you will further extend these abilities, choosing issues of interest to research and discuss in pairs and small groups.

この授業では積極的に英語でコミュニケーションを行なう自信をさらに高めることを目的とする。４－６週間の単位で、興味をもった社会、政治、法律およびグローバルな問題について、英語で学ぶ。前半では、様々な問題について英語で調べ、理解する能力を伸ばす。さらにペアや少人数のグループで、調べたことに関して説明し、プレゼンテーションをして、ディスカッションする能力を培う。後半ではこの能力をさらに発達させ、ペアや少人数のグループで課題を選び、調べ、議論する。

科目目的

The main objectives of this course are to help you
(1) use English to learn interactively with other students about issues relating to the theme of this course
(2) build your knowledge on topics and issues of interest to you
(3) share that knowledge interactively with other people
(4) develop your critical understanding of the world.

この授業の目的は以下の通りです。
（１）英語を使って、他の受講生と対話的に当該科目のテーマに関連する諸問題について学ぶこと
（２）興味関心に基づくトピックや社会問題についての知識を養うこと
（３）他の受講生と学んだ知識を積極的にシェアできるようになること
（４）世界で起きていることについて批判的に理解できるようになること。

(2) 自分のリサーチテーマに関連する情報を集め、ノートをとって、まとめるという作業を通して、リサーチの仕方を習得していきます。

Students will be expected to do 2 hours or more preparation outside class each week, including reading and listening, finding sources of information, note-taking, writing, and/or preparing for presentations.

受講生は、クラスの授業以外で毎週２時間以上の予習をすることが求められます。ここで言う予習とは、リーディング、リスニング、情報や資料収集、ノートテ―キングやライティング、プレゼンテーション準備などを指します。

授業時間外の学修に必要な時間数／週

・毎週１回の授業が半期（前期または後期）または通年で完結するもの。１週間あたり１時間の学修を基本とします。

The teacher will provide feedback on assignments, notes or other submitted materials. In class, you will also receive peer feedback from other students as you develop and share your research through the semester.

フィードバックとして教員が課題やノート等、提出物にコメントを書くことがあります。授業中、学生はリサーチで得たものをクラスメイトと共有し、フィードバックしてもらうこともあります。

Outside class students will do research on issues relating to the course theme that interest them. During class, in pairs and small groups, they will explain and discuss their research, as well as share their research through presenting and/or writing in different ways.

授業外では、本科目のテーマに関連する、自分が興味を持った諸問題についてリサーチしていただきます。授業中は、ペアか小さなグループの中で、そのリサーチについて説明し討論するとともに、最終的に自分のリサーチの全体像をプレゼンターションしたり書いたりして共有します。

Outside class, you will use online resources for doing research each week, and in each class you will use manaba, Google Drive, Google Docs, PowerPoint or other ICT tools to share and develop your work with others.

授業外の課題として、毎週リサーチにインターネットを使います。manaba、グーグルドライブ、グーグルドックス、パワーポイント等、さまざまなICTツールを活用して、授業中はリサーチの内容や課題をクラスメイトと共有することがあります。
