授業の概要
＜学位授与方針と当該授業科目の関連＞
この科目は、問題解決力（外国語とコミュニケーションの能力及びコンピューターを利用した統計・情報処理と分析の能力を用いて、科学技術及び社会の急速な変化に対応しながら、さまざまな問題を解決することができる）の修得に関わる科目です。
＜概要＞
This is primarily a speaking and listening course based on day to day situations and some current affairs topics. Students will learn how to think critically and express themselves clearly in English. Vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, reading and a few small writing exercises are also include in each unit.
科目目的
To help students to get to the point where they are comfortable conversing in everyday situations.
To help them feel confident in expressing opinions on important issues.
To promote critical thinking skills, improve fluency, discussion skills and presentation skills.

By the end of this course students should be able to:
Understand the main points of a listening task, effectively take notes and answer comprehension questions. Produce grammatically clear sentences on the topic studied using the vocabulary taught.
授業計画と内容
There are 12 units in the book. Units 1-6 will be studied in the first semester.
Lesson 1: Introductions to the course.
Lesson 2: Unit 1: TECHNOLOGY. Discussion questions, vocabulary, listening and note-taking, reading.
Homework - Prepare notes for presentation topic in unit.
Lesson 3: Follow up speaking practice. Further discussion. Mini- presentation presented to class.
Lesson 4: Unit 1 quiz. Unit 2: TRAVEL. Discussion questions, vocabulary, listening and note-taking, reading. Homework- prepare pros and cons for debate.
Lesson 5: Follow up speaking practice. Further discussion. Mini- debate. Unit 2 quiz.
Lesson 6: Unit 3: CULTURE: Discussion questions, vocabulary, listening and note-taking, reading.
Lesson 7: Follow up speaking practice. Further discussion. Prepare groups for powerpoint presentation for unit 3.
Homework - Powerpoint presentation.
Lesson 8: Power point presentation delivered to whole class.
Lesson 9: Unit 4. VOLUNTEERING. Discussion questions, vocabulary, listening and note-taking, reading. Discussion.
Lesson 10: Follow up speaking practice. Further discussion. Quiz for unit 4.
Lesson 11: Unit 6: ADS AND COMMERCIALS: Discussion questions, vocabulary, listening and note-taking, reading.
Lesson 12: Follow up speaking practice. Further discussion. Prepare a TV commercial.
Lesson 13: Present TV commercial in groups of 2-3.
Lesson 14: Individual speaking tests. Review of course.
