授業の概要

＜学位授与方針と当該授業科目の関連＞
この科目は、問題解決力（外国語とコミュニケーションの能力及びコンピューターを利用した統計・情報処理と分析の能力を用いて、科学技術及び社会の急速な変化に対応しながら、さまざまな問題を解決することができる）の修得に関わる科目です。

＜概要＞
This course will be a conversation and discussion class, based on everyday topics from internationally recognised speaking tests such as IELTS and the Cambridge suite. Students will watch videos to acquire relevant vocabulary and write mini-presentations at home. Students will practice conversation using question prompts, give mini-presentations, have discussions, and record videos (speaking without reading). AI tools will be used in this class, providing students with an opportunity to engage with this exciting new technology.

科目目的

This course aims to boost students' confidence in communicating in Engish. Students will expand their vocabulary, improve their fluency and practice discussing familiar topics.

By the end of the course, students should be able to discuss familiar topics in English from internationally recognised speaking tests.

Students will work on vocabulary notebooks, prepare questions and mini presentations every week.

Homework assignments (Notebook and other work) will be posted on Manaba every week. Assignments will be collected online before the following class. In principle, there will be a penalty for late submission.

Students must get a B5 notebook (ノート）to be used in this class only. This notebook will be used for writing weekly presentations and other notes to prepare for conversation & discussion, as well as recording vocabulary and other notes.

THE NOTEBOOK MUST BE SUBMITTED FOR ASSESSMENT ON WEEK 13-14

平常点: Students are expected to participate in class activities actively. Students who arrive more than 20 minutes after the start of class AND have not contacted the instructor about the delay by email or over Manaba will be counted as absent. If there is a delay in public transportation, the student must bring an official verification slip. 2 lates will be counted as 1 absence in the register. Absence due to sickness or bereavement will be forgiven when the student presents verifying documents.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
3 absences = -5% penalty
4 absences = --10% penalty
5 absences = No Grade

18 years of English teaching experience in Japan at multiple levels. Previous digital media teaching experience in Ireland. Qualified and experienced Cambridge and IELTS speaking test examiner since 2017.
