This course is for highly motivated students who are able to read academic texts in English and conduct discussions in English about a wide range of topics. This course includes a lot of group discussion and group projects so students must be willing and able to actively communicate in every class.

この科目は、問題解決力(外国語とコミュニケーションの能力及びコンピューターを利用した統計・情報処理と分析の能力を用いて、科学技術及び社会の急速な変化に対応しながら、さまざまな問題を解決することができる)の修得に関わる科目です。
<概要>
The topic of this course is Japanese manga in the age of globalization. Using a collaborative approach, this course will encourage critical thinking, group discussion, and production of creative, multimodal texts. For homework, students will read a short academic text in English and answer comprehension questions every week. All homework questions are designed to prepare students for active participation in class discussions. On certain weeks, homework will also include video lectures prepared by the instructor. Most of the class time will be devoted to active student interaction in English and the completion of group projects.

This class requires weekly reading of the textbook and extra research. Students will set up systems for learning vocabulary and investigating English grammar independently and will keep records of their progress throughout the semester. Attention to detail, ability to keep records carefully, and commitment to independent learning are basic expectations for enrollment in this course.

成績評価の方法・基準(備考)
中間試験: There will be two group projects during the semester. They will be prepared entirely during the class meetings (not as homework). Students will contribute to the group work and write a reflection on the project.
期末試験: Students will be instructed in methods for vocabulary study. They will set up a system to track their progress during the semester and turn in their records on the last day of class.
レポート: Students will read from the required textbook and answer comprehension questions or watch a video lecture and answer comprehension questions as homework every week.
平常点: Students will actively participate in class by explaining their ideas about the course content and asking other students questions. Students will contribute to the group projects.

Each class will consist of some combination of the following: 1) discussions about the homework materials, 2) discussions about creativity and technology, 3) group work related to the goals of the course, and 4) presentations of original, creative, student-produced social media content*.
*Student-produced social media content is strictly for in-class use and will NOT be posted on the Internet or in any public forum.
