授業の概要
This intensive English course focuses on building up academic and business Englih skills. Students complete various workplace-themed tasks such as product idea generation, elevator pitches and presentations. A part of each class is also set aside for developing critical thinking skills and global awareness through reading/watching/discussing current issues.
科目目的
This course is positioned as a global subject in the curriculum, and its purpose is to provide students with an opportunity to learn to use English as a means of furthering their intellectual, personal, and foreign language development.

1. Improvement of students’ overall abilities in English
2. Improvement of students’ ability to write up and present information in various formats
3. Improvement of students’ ability to communicate on various topics and express their own opinions
4. Improvement of students’ skills in grammar, vocabulary, and critical, logical thinking in English
5 Improvement of language proficiency across the four macro-skills by completing set tasks . These tasks include an elevator pitch video, a (poster) presentation and a current issues portfolio.

その他特記事項
This course is based on task-based learning. Students need to be motivated to complete different tasks on an individual level.
The academic skills component requires motivation to increase active language skills as well as multiple choice formats test taking skills.
The current issues component requires an interest in global issues.
We will be using Canva, Padlet and document/slide software (e.g. Word / PowerPoint) in class. In addition, students are asked to submit short videos.
Students will also be introduced to various ICT tools and open educational resources throughout the semester which they may find useful for current studies or during study abroad.
You will be expected to study English outside the class using E-learning and other materials, and to prepare for each class.
